Passau, Bavaria, Germany – 2022 Danube River cruise. Passau is known as the Three Rivers City because it is at the confluence of three rivers; the main one is the Danube which is joined by the Inn from the south and Ilz from the north.
Passau population is about 50,000 and it is the economic, cultural, and communications centre of southeastern Bavaria. Historically it was an important medieval trade and shipping centre specializing in the salt trade and the making of high quality knife and sword blades.
On top of a hill across the Danube from the town of Passau is Veste Oberhaus, a fortress dating back as far as 1219.
